From accountancy to care: building a business on strong foundations
Helen's career did not follow a straight line, and she is the first to say that the detours were just as important as the destination. She began as an accountant, developing the financial acumen and analytical discipline that would later prove invaluable when running her own enterprise.
Her entry into the care sector came through a franchise, a route that gave her structured exposure to an entirely new industry. She immersed herself in the specifics of care sector operations, built her knowledge from the ground up, and then did what many entrepreneurs dream of but few achieve: she acquired and expanded the very company she had been learning within, transforming it into the business it is today.
"I started my career as an accountant building my foundational skills. I got into business through a franchise which helped with learning key industry specific skills in the care sector, then I acquired and expanded the company transforming the business."
Today, Helen runs one of the leading care agencies in Kent, helping connect talented professionals with meaningful roles in the care sector. She has experienced the weight of environments that can make a person feel they do not belong, or that their voice does not carry the same authority as others in the room. Her response to that? Keep going anyway.
"Resilience and authenticity are your greatest strengths. Never let anyone make you feel that you do not belong or that your voice does not matter."
